Now you can see what fantastic amazing stuff PsiStar has to offer. The trip is open to anyone as we will be getting the train, in fact we'd like as many of you to come as possible, whether you're new or old to PsiStar.
You can see that this trip is amazing value for money, and I think it may well be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in that you can go to a themepark with your buddies and not have to hold the bags of family members or get puked on by your little sister. *represses the memory* It's worth skipping lectures.
As mentioned, the last opportunity to book is 1st October, and we'd like you to pay a £20 deposit as we will have to buy the tickets in advance of the going. You can pay this £20 to Nicola or James and rest assured, we've found a great mattress to stash it under.
We're hoping to get a grant from Nexus for the trip so if all goes to plan you may not have to pay much more than your £20 deposit. In the mean-time, enjoy freshers week and don't forget to come and point and laugh at us at the Fresher's Fayre 10am-4pm Wednesday and Thursday.
With Jo doing all these lovely new pages to do with getting yourself a phd I only thought it should be nice of me to go change all the links along the top.
I've also been meaning to get rid of the links button along the top as its not really needed.
So please somehow manage to pull your eyes away from the centre of the screen and look upwards to where the links are at the top, you should now be faced with, home | kit | contact us | PhD Info
They are there for a reason, use them
I've also changed a link on the main page for the next PsiStar Trip (hopefully) to Alton Towers, see above for a nice little pic of the coaster "Air" in action, click the link and it will take you to the page with all the info.
So I've graduated and a lot of you will be at the end of this year and you'll be trying to figure out what to do next.
If like me you want a PhD studentship then you can thank me during Freshers' Week for my brain child.
(drum roll please)
If you click here you will find advice, comprehensive listings of what Uni does what research, for both Physics and Astrophysics, and a schedule to help you figure out what you should be doing when during your PhD application process. It's not all finished but will be soon. So far the lists are done so you can start searching them now.
Hope that this helps you all, if you have any suggestions, email me. We were thinking of extending this to cover jobs searchs and teaching opportunities if you know anything about this, also let me know.
I've recieved an email from Nexus yesterday and thought everyone should be aware, here's a little snippet from the email, the complete email is posted in the forums here.

Dear Physics Society
At the beginning of this term, Nexus has organised a great value for money treat for the physics students in your department. Nexus is holding three Einstein Year Dinners in London, Edinburgh and Manchester to commemorate 100 years since Einstein published his three famous papers. This will also be a great opportunity to meet other physics students from local physics departments and to meet the members of your local branch who organise activities in your area.
The tickets are a bargain price of £15 for a three course meal, after dinner speech plus dancing the night away with your fellow physics buddies - this a fantastic networking opportunity with other physics societies and a great event to kick-start the new academic year for your physics society - without doing any organising!
I think this would be a great first event and that we should at least book one table.
Go to the forums and post your thoughts.
The actual date of the dinner is Saturday 15th October.
We're now back from cornwall and we had a great time. There will be a photo album of the holiday soon, there's just a lot of photos to get through.
The next trip is probably going to be to Alton Towers so watch out for the details coming soon.
The next Event is freshers' week and the freshers' fayre. We'll be there so come and say hi and you can also join up for the coming year. There'll also be lots of freebees to gather and you'll be able to see our kit in action.
We hope you've all had a good summer and we'll see you in a couple of weeks.
I've got a hold of the group photo from the summer ball and scanned it in and uploaded it so we at least have something to show that we were at the Summer Ball.
Hopefully I'll get a hold of a few people when I get back that had digital camera's and get a few more photo's up of everyone, till then you'll just have to enjoy the photo of me, jo, paz, evrim, nicola and fletch.
The social tops arrived today and I would like to say a big thanks to Kingfisher Leisurewear for the speedy making of these tops, the quality of them and their general all round helpfulness in getting these made, especially a chap called Simon at Kingfisher.
Nexus also gets a big thanks for helping keep the cost of the tops down to a reasonable level and ensures that I can peg the cost of future tops for at least the next year at ~£10, whereas for the Rowing Team I used to have to pay ~£16!!.
Below you will find a picture of the top with the bottom folded up so every detail can be seen in one shot, (ignore the background which is the top of my bed), further photos will be appearing in the forums and on the site within a week or so. Anyone who didn't order one this time and wants one will have to wait till september when I'll be putting in a new order, hopefully along with a bunch of new freshers.
Looks like the server on which the forums are hosted is buggered, the problem you will all get when you try to view the forums is a problem on our server which I have no control over, I've emailed them with what to do and hopefully they'll get it fixed, they might already know about the problem anyhow so keep checking every few hours to see if its back up.
I've uploaded a load more pictures, including photos from the 2004 Summer Ball, I'm still looking for photo's from this year's summer ball so if anyone has any please send them my way, don't worry I've got plenty of room, gmail is great.
That's about it at the moment, currently messing about with the forum design, if I get it looking right I'll change it within the next few weeks.
As it is now 1st August 2005 the new committee for the next year now offically takes over, the committee for next year can be seen here and a quick name call is as follows, James, Nicola, Steve and Adam.
Pratik has also added some new links in the links section...don't quite know where else he might have added them but still, thought you might like to know.
Added links for Metalib which is to do with the library and accessing electronic papers. Also a few links in the physics section and fun section, go see.
