As well as our trips around London to visit famous attractions, museums and galleries, we also organise a big trip for the
reading week of the first semester and for the end of the year. The first of these events was during this past year to JET,
the fusion experiment at the Culham Science Centre in Didcot near Oxford. With sunstantial help from Nexus, we were able to
hire the Union mini-bus and in the hands of our Treasurer, get to JET and back again in one day, with a flying visit of
Oxford during the returning leg of the trip. All members who attended were impressed by the size of JET and of MAST, the
UK experiment also at the Culham Science Centre. We were shown around each experiment by experts on the experiments who were
able to answer even the most obscure questions Harry could come up with. The whole trip was a great success and we hope to
return there in coming years to show more of our members the experiments and keep up with the advances being made there.
During the second semester, we have had in the past the Annual Nexus Paintball Tournament and although it was not run in 2005
we hope that it returns in the future to allow us to get together with our fellow physics societies and shot them. Failing
this we have a plan to lure the sports clubs into the forest and attack them instead.
As a treat for the end of the year, we are hoping to take our members to Chessington and test gravity and the stress limit of
steel for ourselves. We are also planning a trip/holiday for our members before some of them graduate and leave us forever,
and other disappear beyond the London Circular. We hope to be camping although the destination and details of the expedition
are currently undecided.
